History Was Made in Washington, D.C.
History was made in Washington, D.C. on September 22 - 23, 2006. This date marked The Day of Celebration. The Military Road School Preservation Trust (MRSPT) sponsored the first United States Colored Troops Symposium.

In an effort to acquaint the public with golden nuggets of American history and preserve our treasured history for the generations of tomorrow, this symposium was organized to honor the First USCT Regiment of the District of Columbia.
The Symposium was well attended on both days, with visitors from Washington, D.C. as well as from around the country.
Speakers for the event included well-know Civil War experts such as keynote speaker C.R. Gibbs, Mr. Bennie McRae, Jr., Dr. Frank Smith, Jr., Dr. B. F. Cooling and the 54th Massachusetts Reenactors.
It was evident by the details, hard work and planning that the Symposium will spark and sustain ongoing interest in the First USCT Regiment of the District of Columbia. Thanks to Ms. Tyson and the members of the Military Road School Preservation Trust, we can now look forward to another successful Symposium in the coming years. Once again, we would like to thank MRSPT for a job well done.
