Criss-Cross Fractions, allows the student to make the connection from concrete to abstract. This is an incredibly simple method for teaching the student to visualize the multiplication of fractions.

What is 2/4 x 1/2?

1. First place the Criss-Cross Fractions 1/2 transparency down
2. Then place the 2/4 transparency over the 1/2 transparency with the title turned to the right.
3. Count the number of boxes
4. Count the number of boxes that have criss-crossed lines

In this sample, there are 2 boxes that are criss-crossed out of 8 boxes. The answer is 2/8.
