Manuscript Evaluation Department

What can you expect from a manuscript evaluation by Three Dimensional Publishing?

If you're like most writers, you've shared your manuscript with friends and family. And if they're like most family members and close friends, they've probably told you that you have a bestseller on your hands. Maybe you do, but don't you think you need an unbiased professional opinion before proceeding?

When we receive your manuscript, we will assign it to an editor who has the most knowledge and experience in the area about which you are writing. This person will carefully read your manuscript from cover to cover. We will then report back to you regarding any problems we encounter, with particular attention being paid to any "hole that may need filling" that we feel will hinder the reader's understanding of, and appreciation for, your material.

This process will take about four weeks upon receiving your manuscript. We will provide you with a written evaluation that will point out its areas of strengths and weaknesses, and will offer some specific suggestions for needed improvement. (Be prepared. With some manuscripts, our recommendations may include the need for extensive rewriting in order for it to achieve its full potential!)

The evaluation fee depends on the number of pages in your manuscript. The evaluation fee, however, does not include the fee to make any editorial changes. You are welcome to attempt the alterations on your own or, if you prefer, we can provide you with bids for any of the work that we are suggesting.

Take the next step to making sure your manuscript is the best that it can be. We promise to be candid and constructive in our evaluation. Below is a description of the evaluation feedback Three Dimensional Publishing will provide you in detail.

Manuscript Analysis:
Overview and evaluation of a manuscript to determine its suitability for publication. Special attention given to an author's writing skills, including command of narrative structure, vocabulary, tonal consistency, and general understanding of the writing craft. Based on this analysis, one of the following services may be recommended.

Proof Reading:
Basic correction of typographical errors and grammatical mistakes. This service does not include an analysis of editorial content, organization, vocabulary, or style. Perhaps an unglamorous component of book publishing, proofreading is one of the most important stages a manuscript goes through on the way to the bookstore. The finest prose and the most expertly researched and written text are both rendered suspect in the eyes of the readers if they contain errors, be they egregious or simply careless mistakes. Three Dimensional Publishing's proofreaders have the breadth of knowledge and experience to assist the authors of books ranging from read-to books for toddlers to adult fiction/non-fiction.

Copy Editing:
Basic correction of typographical errors and grammatical mistakes, plus corrections of manuscript's organization, vocabulary, word choice, coherence, and content. Every manuscript must be edited. If you already have a finished manuscript, we can provide you with expert editing assistance. This can range from "substantive editing" (in which there is some rewriting and reorganizing of the manuscript and, in some cases, fact checking) to "copy editing" (in which the manuscript is edited for syntax, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency of style). Depending upon the length and complexity of the manuscript and the degree of editing required, we can provide you with an edited copy of your manuscript within six to ten weeks.

Extensive Editing/Rewriting
A comprehensive review and improvement of the manuscript, including correction of typographical and grammatical errors; analysis of editorial content for coherence, logical organization, word choice, style; evaluation and selection of a tone suitable for the subject matter; addition of new copy and/or extensive revisions of the original copy when needed; and suggestions for appropriate additional materials and/or research needed by the author for the development of a manuscript appropriate for its target audience.
